50 years of luxury and fame
The prestigious world renowned harbour of Puerto Banus recently celebrated its 50 year anniversary. The foundations of Puerto Banús started back in the 1960s, when its founder José Banús started to build a luxury residential area called Nueva Andalucia which belongs to the famous Marbella region. A meeting with Noldi Schreck who was the architect and designer of the legendary neighbourhood of Beverly Hills, had motivated José Banús even more to pursue his idea to create an ambitious, exclusive project with an international vision called Puerto Banus.
The design of Puerto Banús was based on the concept of a Mediterranean harbour in an Andalusia style, with luxurious avenues surrounded by colourful gardens and right next to the sea. The opening of Puerto Banus harbour took place in 1970, with more than 1,500 invited guests. Among the guests were members of Spanish royalty, Prince Rainier and Princess Grace of Monaco and Julio Iglesias who performed some of his latest songs. Soon after the opening event some of the most known global brands such as Dolce & Gabbana, Hugo Boss, Louis Vuitton, Gucci and many more set up their shops in this new fashionable destination.
Within a few years Puerto Banus became one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world welcoming some of the most well known celebrities in the world such as Sean Connery, Prince, Antonio Banderas, David Beckham, Cristiano Ronaldo, Eva Longoria, Michelle Obama and recently Tennis world number one Novak Djokovic has decided to buy a home in Marbella. An unbeatable climate of 300+ days of sunshine, home to some of the most exclusive Yachts in the world, a magical setting surrounded by mountains, golf courses and the sea plus a wide range of international restaurants makes Puerto Banús a one of a kind international destination that we strongly recommend visiting.
